Dr. Ambrose McGhie maintained an abiding interest in the history of Medicine and was an avid collector of medical memorabilia. He brought these special aptitudes to his tenure as Chair of the History and Archives Committee of the Hamilton Academy of Medicine, and to its early deliberations regarding the museum. In the 1960’s Dr. McGhie donated an extensive collection of medical books and artifacts to the Academy for use in the developing museum.
The Ambrose McGhie Medical Museum was dedicated in 1971. His early work has been carried on by a dedicated group of volunteers with an interest in medical history. The museum now has an extensive collection of artifacts and unique archives.
Please note, the museum is not open to the public.
