In 1947, under the Presidency of Dr. Goldwin G. Henry, The Hamilton Academy of Medicine set-up the Hamilton Academy of Medicine Foundation. In December 1985, The Hamilton Academy of Medicine Foundation was awarded charitable status designation from Revenue Canada (Charitable BN #119236602 RR0001). The Hamilton Academy of Medicine Foundation operates separately from the Hamilton Academy of Medicine, however it is a subsidy of Hamilton Academy of Medicine.
The objects of The Hamilton Academy of Medicine Foundation are to advance the Arts and Science of Medicine in its various branches and for no other purpose.
In 1993, the Foundation accepted the administration of the newly-formed Dr. Ben Finkelstein Family Medicine Award Fund, established with funds donated by the Finkelstein Family in memory of the late Dr. Ben Finkelstein. The Foundation’s Board of Directors participates in the selection and presentation of this annual award which is given to a final year Family Medicine resident at McMaster University, who meets the established criteria.
